MOON Crescent Scalloped Brooch 2 Carat Old Mine DIAMOND 9k White Gold Extender Connector Pendant Pin Charm Holder Figural Celestial Milgrain
ABOUT:
We love our antique celestial jewelry and here is a lovely example with the nineteen old cut diamonds totaling over 2 carats in antique diamonds set in the scalloped milgrain setting. Most of the diamonds are old mine cuts with a few tiny rose cuts at each end of the moon. With two additional mine cuts at each end of the bar pin portion for 21 diamonds in all, it has a wonderful sparkle factor.
This would be a beautiful pendant conversion, bright, vibrant and glittery. It is crafted in 9k white gold (stamped 9CT at the back). No appearance of it being lower carat gold however as the metal is very bright and shiny.
This is currently a whimsical brooch but could also be used as a connector on the ends of a chain, or converted as desired to a pendant by your local jeweler. I was able to style it with a chain in photos but it does swivel or teeter some as it doesn't want to lie perfectly flat on the decollette with the pin back - but hopefully it gives you an idea of how it would look. Chain not included. Some hook a chain to each end and then use the pin post to run additional dangling charms along the back as a two for one pendant / charm holder. Plenty of ways to wear so I will leave it to the buyer to determine their preference.
The good thing about it being a brooch is that it is in better than most condition with little wear so that is the trade off when it comes to conversions, as brooches usually end up in about as good condition as can be found on antique jewelry, compared to rings and pendants that show more wear.
The Victorians were fascinated with nature and also with jewelry, and we see some wonderful designs come from the period incorporating both of these delights.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers "draw out" an example to get an idea of scale in person. They are always smaller in real life than they appear in photos due to the zoom photos I am required to show.
Antique Boxes, props, chains, bannisters, mice : ) not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
45mm end to end, the moon is about 24mm in diameter..
Weight: 3.9 grams.
The diamonds are nice and chunky. The largest is about 4.1mm and they taper slightly down until they get to the end stones which are 1.8mm, followed by the smaller rose cut chips that are 1-1.3mm. The two bezel set old mine cuts at each end are about 3.2mm. Exact weights cannot be determined while set and depths of each stone varies but it's over 0.85 carat total weight in diamonds.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Nice and sturdy with the bezels and little bead prongs in really good shape. No real damage - Very legible. The antique diamonds are typical - a few are eye clean, the others with faint natural inclusions. Three appear quite frosty under magnification. Also typical with slightly varying hues with a touch of warmth here or there but all well matching to the eye. No damage to any of the stones. Nothing glaring, no dark carbon or inky spots.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
Striking to wear with the figural shape.
I would be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop. Thanks for stopping by!
