French VICTORIAN Antique Triangular Natural Rose Cut DIAMOND Stud EARRINGS 2 Carats Face Up 18k Gold Solid Platinum Crown Fleur De Lis Prong
ABOUT:
Really ornate and uncommon French antique rose cut diamond stud earrings. Each one has ornate fleur de lis crown like prongs holding up the rose cut diamonds which are each a sort of softened triangular shape.
The diamonds face up at around one carat each with the actual carat weight being significantly less because the rose cuts are thinly sliced like disks - super spready for a nice size footprint on the ear.
These are imperfect but wow are they cool. Really sturdy and well functioning settings with the spring loaded Alpa style push backs and larger gauge ear posts. One of the stones has a hairline crack to one edge. The stone is held together by the setting but it does appear to have been weakened there from a natural inclusion and if overly handled, may come free. Sold as is as I would have priced them higher if they were perfect. Amazing warmth to light champagne hue to the antique hand cut diamonds.
The settings are so pretty and comes as pictured in a vintage box!
Please note the measurements - again exact carat weight cannot be known without removing them which would ruin the settings.
Found in Paris and crafted in 18k gold with platinum prongs. French hallmarks for both on each ear post (so what is seen is not damage or dings, but actual intentional hallmark strikes). The Alpa push backs are also stamped for 18k gold.
Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
The stones are about 6 to 6.5mm, each a softened triangular shape with three rounded corners. The settings holding the diamonds are 9.3mm in diameter, meant to serve as an illusion setting to make the diamonds appear larger, and about 6.2mm front to back / deep no measuring the ear posts but just the crown like settings..
The pair weighs a little over 3.5 grams combined.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
These definitely have an antique look to them. With the spready rose cuts catching the light like only they can and a wonderful warm to champagne hue.
One stone has a frosty natural inclusion to one corner of the three sides which can catch the light. It has weakened the thinly sliced stone there so there is a hairline fissure on both the top and bottom. I would imagine if overly handled this could come free but the stone is held together by the prongs. Sold as is for gentler wear and handling - 24/7 and overnight wear not recommended on these 150 year old beauties.
The other diamond has some fainter natural inclusions, very slightly eye visible. Both stones have rough / unpolished outside girdle edges. The one with the inclusions has a few nibbles, but some of what is seen I assume has always been that way since they were hand cut and thin so they didn't have a way to polish those edges. Note that they have less faceting so these cuts always appear more see through like glass until the triangular facets catch the light for softer winks of sparkle. This is how they are made and one of the reasons why they are beloved, because they are unique.
The ear posts are on the shorter side with a larger gauge which is how they were made. Very sturdy settings with the push button alpa push backs where you have to push the buttons on each side to remove them. They latch on very securely and cannot come free until you again push the buttons on each side.
