ANTIQUE Old Mine Cut Diamond & Tall Blue Sapphire Faceted HALO Ring French Platinum Edwardian Belle Epoque Stacker Bullseye Target Stacker
ABOUT:
Fun geometry and unique fabrication to this early 1900s stacker. It has a center chunky old mine cut diamond in a bezel that is set into a faceted blue sapphire halo.
The blue halo is one large sapphire stone, hallowed out in the middle like a donut to hold the inlaid center diamond. And the larger sapphire which creates the holding point for the diamond is faceted all around. Unique fabrication with a tall bauble like ring face and a wonderful glowing blue color that sparkles from the center.
With the platinum bezel running through the center of the stone, I can't tell if the sapphire is natural or synthetic. I am selling it based on what I paid for it with no claims about the stone except that it does test as a sapphire and is not glass.
Pretty amazing that they were able to drill into the middle of the sapphire to run the bezel within.
Found in Paris with French hallmark for platinum and a goldsmith stamp.
Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6, the ring face is 12.8mm north to south and 8.4mm tall of the finger. It weighs 4.1 grams.
The center diamond is about 4.6x4.4mm cushion cut and around .4 carat. I would not remove it for an exact measurement and I cannot get a depth measurement on it as it is inset within the deep sapphire.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The sapphire is in great condition with no major abrasions, no chips and a lovely sheen and polish with inner blue glow. The diamond has a shallow flake of loss to the surface edge extending from one edge of the girdle that is slightly out of round. This is not really visible while wearing as it is just the tiniest hair breadth of a gap between the bezel, and the same gap appears in other areas just due to the stone being cushion cut and set in a round bezel (a common fabrication for the antique period). A nice and chunky old mine cut diamond with just a few frosty specks seen only under strong magnification. Two worn prongs but the others are still good so the sapphire is surrounded on all sides. The shank is a bit blunt on the edges from wear and is a bit thin.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
