Antique Natural Sapphire with .8 Carat Old Mine Cut Diamond Halo Ring Cluster with Donut Shank Stacker Band 18k Gold Hexagon Silk

Antique Natural Sapphire with .8 Carat Old Mine Cut Diamond Halo Ring Cluster with Donut Shank Stacker Band 18k Gold Hexagon Silk

ABOUT:
The classic antique sapphire halo ring! This one with the true blue and light reflecting natural sapphire at center, surrounded by a halo of old mine cut diamonds.

Super cool stone measuring almost 3 carats - the rutile silk inclusions make a hexagon pattern right in the center of the stone. Clearly an intentional choice by the cutter to feature it front and center and while it isn't super visible to the eye it is such a unique and interesting characteristic of the stone when studied in direct light. I wish it was a bit more eye visible but this is a fun one to view up close. The twelve diamonds in the halo add a little over .8 carat in bright diamond sparkle.

Did you know that in natural sapphires, inclusions are often sought after to help scatter light and thereby enhance the stone's color? That would be the case with this one, the rutile silk inclusions giving the stones a velvety glow from within, similar to the effect of a star sapphire but without the star shape. : ). In addition, this one also has some color zoning / blocking at the center of the hexagon inclusion where it is lighter / more transparent in color. Just a fun one to see in varying lighting conditions to find such a quirky and one of a kind natural stone.

I had a dealer friend in Paris once tell me that these sapphire halos are among the most popular ring styles in France where they prefer the more subtle sapphire colors over more vibrant gemstones like rubies and emeralds or large diamonds. I have found in my years of selling that they are very popular here as well! I get so many requests for them that I've found I've had a hard time sourcing them so I was excited to find this one with its antique sparkle and unique center stone.

I actually bought this as a set with the earrings shown in the group photos and all were sold to me as sapphires but upon further inspection, the earrings are old cut blue paste and not sapphires (while this ring is a natural sapphire). As such I am selling them separately but they are a beautiful, near perfect match to wear as a set if desired.

The cluster ring face is set to the sturdy shank that is donut in form. Found in France. No hallmarks remain but sold to me as 18k which is the standard in France and tested to confirm.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

It is a size 10, should be sizable to a decent extent to reduce the size of the shank without affecting any of the stones in the ring face but best to check with your local jeweler to determine their comfort level.
It weighs 4.6 grams.
The ring face is 13mm north south and 6.6mm tall off the finger.
The sapphire is about 8.4mm in diameter. I would not remove it for an exact weight but averages for this diameter sapphire are about 2.9 carat. The 12 diamonds are about 2.6mm each for a total carat weight of about .8 carat in diamonds..

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
A few flea bites to the sapphire on the facet edges but nothing major, for age it has a better than most sheen and polish. One nick to the girdle not really eye visible and not affecting its shape. Most of the antique diamonds are eye clean and they are bright and sparkly and well matching. Just a few faint frosty speck inclusions here or there only under magnification. Three outside prongs are worn completely back but they each have corner and interior prongs as well so none of the stones move. The sapphire is very well held in strong prongs.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
